Iran’s ‘Janbal’ to race in Denmark

Iranian documentary ‘Janbal’ is to compete in Denmark-based prestigious film festival CPH:DOX.

The documentary co-directed by Mina Bozorgmehr and Hadi Kamali-Moghaddam will vie for the event’s Next:Wave Award which is a brand-new section of the festival dedicated to emerging filmmakers with the courage to take chances.

The adventurous Iranian documentary-fiction ‘Janbal’ is set on the island of Hormoz in the Persian Gulf, reads the film synopsis on CPH:DOX webiste, adding, “Directing duo Mina Bozorgmehr and Hadi Kamali Moghadam unite the ancient myths with a cinematic expression that is both contemporary and deeply personal” in the doc.

‘Janbal’ will compete with 8 films from Argentina, France, Mexico, Denmark, Thailand, Germany, and Portugal.

Established in 2003, The Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, officially dubbed CPH:DOX, is a global documentary film festival annually held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Growing as one of the largest documentary film festivals in Europe, the event is devoted to supporting independent and innovative films, presenting the best in contemporary non-fiction, art cinema and experimental film.

The 2017 edition of the CPH:DOX is slated for March 16-26.
